Art vs. Art – Painting No. 51

The Competition

On September 11, 2010, I entered the Art vs. Art competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The rules of the competition were to complete an acrylic painting using only the primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, and graphite within a four-hour time frame.  The event, sponsored by Primary Colours, and Prizm Art Supply, required a painting to be completed on-stie, within four hours, using only the materials supplied by the event promoters.

Concept

The painting depicts layers of cylinders in various shapes and sizes.  I used the graphite to draw on the canvas, and to carve out sections of the wet paint.  Although my painting did not make it to the finalist round, the painting sold as soon as the Vogue Theater opened.

The acrylic painting measures 18” x 14”, on canvas.  The painting was completed in September of 2010.

The Destruction

The audience is the judge and the jury, as the losing paintings are destroyed by a baseball bat, chain saw, or jackhammer.
